Nick is Scotland’s best known chef and one of the country’s most popular figures.

He started his career working in the Merchant Navy, but a passion for cooking soon led him to open his first restaurant, Braeval, in 1986 and by 1991 he was Scotland’s youngest chef ever to be awarded a Michelin star. He opened Nairns restaurant with rooms in 1997 to international acclaim and in 2000 launched Nairns Anywhere, an event catering business boasting restaurant quality food in any location.

Nick is a familiar figure to many due to his numerous television appearances, including his three successful series: Wild Harvest, Wild Harvest 2 and Island Harvest. His programme, Nick Nairn and the Dinner Ladies, won a Glenfiddich award in 1994 and continues to co-present the ever-popular BBC2 show, Ready Steady Cook. He has been the presenter of Landward, BBC Scotland’s rural affairs programme, since June 2007.

As an active champion of local produce, he is a well-known and passionate spokesperson on Scotland’s larder.

Currently, Nick is based at his Port of Menteith Cook School, a state-of-the-art facility that was launched in 2000 and further expanded in 2004. Nick is also in high demand as a consultant to the food and drink industry and travels around the world giving demonstrations and talking about his passion for food.

He is a regular contributor to newspaper and magazine articles and has written numerous cookery books with total sales in excess of half a million.
When not busy filming, teaching, or writing books he likes to go hill walking and mountain biking.

I'm always out and about, whether filming, doing cookery demostrations or appearances. Have a look at forthcoming events below - perhaps I'll even see you there!

Every Friday BBC2 (Scotland) 7-7.30pm

Nick, with assistance from Sarah Mack and Euan McIlwraith, presents the countryside magazine show covering food, farming, wildlife, the environment and outdoor leisure.
BBC2 Scotland programmes can be viewed on sky channel 990 or via BBC iplayer, making landward accessible to viewers all over the UK.
